i thumbed this up because it does have some useful tips to getting up early. i have a hard time with this, particularly as the days get shorter. i love sleep.
i am so. not. a morning person. not that i'm grumpy or anything but i'm a repetitive snooze-hitter and i'm kind of foggy for the first, oh, 30-40 minutes or so. it's why i enjoy walking to work - the brisk 30 minute walk wakes me up fully by the time i get to the office, mostly because it's uphill the ENTIRE FUCKING WAY.
once i was in negotiations for a job in inuvik. the funding fell through, which is probably good because i suspect, given the nearly 24 hours of darkness in the winter, i would probably go to bed at 6pm and sleep until 8am. in the summer i'd likely exist on about 2 hours of sleep a night.
but i had to point out two things that i just cannot bring myself to cease doing from this list.
4. Don't read in bed. Spending as little time as possible in bed will actually help your body realize that the bed is for sleeping, and not lying awake for hours. The goal is to fall asleep within 10 minutes of getting into bed.
no. nonononono. reading in bed is the highlight of GOING to bed. and waking up on weekend mornings. i in fact cannot fall asleep without reading for at least a few minutes. now that my wireless is working again, sometimes that means reading shit on SU but i'm trying to break that habit. paper stuff only.
23. Avoid Naps. It's a proven fact that nappers sleep worse at night. Naps break critical sleep cycles that keep us from getting the proper types of sleep we need.
hell no. i love napping. napping is the one reason i'm looking forward to getting old - you can nap with reckless abandon. on weekends i enjoy getting up early, hitting the market, reading a bit and napping later in the day. naps rule.
some of the other stuff on here i probably wouldn't necessarily do, but it's good advice.

did you know that after humans, house cats are responsible for the most extinctions on earth? yeah. some islands have lost up to 90% of their birds/reptiles after domestic cats were introduced. keep your cat inside or give it a giant jingly collar. just don't keep too many inside, or you'll have a house of squalor. (hey. that rhymes.)
regardless of today's PSA, this is kind of cool, mostly because i like dead stuff.

my reputation precedes me, and this time, it's a GOOD thing.
a few years ago i did some duck banding for CWS. it was awesome. you get up close and personal (especially when you have to check the sex) with various dabbler ducks. anyway, the guy i banded with happens to now be my office neighbor and asked me if i'd volunteer some time this weekend to help them out. so, i'm going to spend my long weekend partly at a giant fall fair and partly giving mallards and teals some leg bling. i have a picture on my home computer of the last time i did it - i'll upload it later. i look pretty hot in my waders, duck shitted shirt and hat while i molest a duck.
