http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/story/RTGAM.20070803.wsalmon0803/BNSto...; bc's salmon are in serious trouble. in the 6 years since i began my love affair with all things salmon, i've seen my favorite runs decline drastically. where we had millions of fish running, it now barely registers in the several hundred thousand 4 years later (life cycle). it makes me sad - it's a beautiful part of nature and plays an important role on many levels. the reasons are up for debate (overfishing, sea lice from fish farms, high water temperatures, low water levels, etc.) but it is suspicious that all the tasty fish are taking the biggest hits (coho, chinook and sockeye. chum and pink are meh.) but bravo to DFO for being cautious and closing the fishery.

1. i think it's tacky. the bride and groom will always remember that you scronked cute cousin bobby or made out with hot groomsman ben in the coatroom, and you will forever be remembered for the drunken make out on the dance floor to some crappy celine dion song.

2. because 9 times out of ten, i'm wearing these puppies under my dress.

#2 is reason enough. these are the anti-sexy panties. yeah, you guys picture women wearing a lacy thong under that dress? ha. suckers. she's likely wearing these nude colored biker type suck 'em in shorts to look so good in that clingy dress and have no lines. they're awesome, and they work like a dream.

they also work like a chastity belt.

http://edition.cnn.com/2007/US/08/03/bridge.collapse/index.html?iref=mpstoryview; i had a boyfriend that used to make fun of me because i had what he considered an irrational fear of overpasses. the highway that goes into vancouver is always super backed up because people drive like morons, and whenever i'd visit him and we'd head into the city, we'd be stuck in traffic and i'd avoid being under the overpasses, leaving this big gap that sometimes some asshole in the next lane would fill, and it drove him nuts. but lately, this fear seems far less irrational. first this happened, now this.

anyway, i'm sad for these families yet relieved that it's not much, much worse. and now i'm going to be freaked out being ON these things as well as under them. damn it all.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qcyumYvvyEQ; i watched this yesterday in a pub with my boss and the new guy. i made them watch the replay, then we decided if that guy could get up and walk away from that, we should have another beer to celebrate.

this guy apparently had no sponsors and paid to get into this thing himself. guaran-fucking-teed he'll never have to pay for an event himself again.

my best friend's dad opened a skateboard park when we were in middle school. we "worked the concession" (i.e. talked to cute skateboarder boys) every saturday without fail. i could ride back and forth on the small half pipe, but never worked up the balls to do anything riskier.
